What is SAGE?
SAGE stands for Special and Gifted Education, and the mission of our SAGE Chair is to provide an opportunity for families and teachers of students who learn differently to share resources and friendship. SAGE Chairs work with PTA to provide education, communication and support for families just like you. We also engage the teachers and administrators along the way.
We want to support EVERY student. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our SAGE Chair if you have ideas for how we can make our campus more inclusive and supportive for our SAGE families. Email sage@wyattpta.org

Special Education Toolkit - Family Resources | National PTA
This toolkit helps make sense of an often-confusing system and educates families of newly diagnosed children with special needs on how to get the best special education, services and resources available to them.

Special Education/IEP/504: SpedTX is a great resource for answers. Read your child’s IEP or 504, the Notice of Procedural Safeguards and the Parent’s Guide to Admission, Review and Dismissal Guide. Keep a folder of all documents for future reference, you may need them one day when advocating for your child. SpedTX has resources to help set up your binder. If you do run into issues contact the teacher, then the principal, then the special education director with the district. SpedTX also has an answer line to help answer any questions or concerns.

Getting your student tested for learning/behavioral impairments: Start with your student’s teacher, and submit the request in writing to your local educational agency’s (LEA) director of special education or to a district administrative employee. See page 8 or the Parent's Guide to the ARD Process manual for more information.
